The UK Government, as announced in last weeks budget will make £40m available to eligible small and medium sized businesses during 2015/16 to access grants of up to £3,000 for a superfast broadband connection at their business. Knowledge About Telecoms and Superfast South Yorkshire are keen to ensure as many eligible businesses in the region are able to access the grants by promoting the Connection Vouchers program and getting businesses connected.

The roll-out plans will be announced shortly, following a period of surveying and planning. The first communities across South Yorkshire can look forward to improved access to online services and better connectivity for businesses from summer 2015 onwards. Headline figures include:

  • Deploy Superfast fibre broadband to 97.9% of homes and businesses before the end of 2017.

The benefits are considerable for businesses, which can do much more in far less time. Companies can speed up file and data transfers, increase their competitive edge by improving their web presence, and also help enable rural businesses to compete with city based competitors, they can collaborate with colleagues and customers on conference or video calls or swap their hardware and expensive software licenses for files, processing power and software from cloud computing.
